Gamma Phi Chapter Alumni

B R I E F      H I S T O R Y

Kappa Alpha Order (K.A.) at the University of  Louisiana - Lafayette was originally a local fraternity called Alpha Sigma Kappa (ASK) founded  in 1931 at what was then called Southwestern Louisiana Institute (S.L.I.).  In the Spring of 1959 members began to discuss affiliation with a national fraternity. Letters were written to Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Kappa Alpha Order inquiring about their petitioning process.  After reviewing the information received from these two national fraternities, the members of Alpha Sigma Kappa unanimously voted on October 20, 1959 to petition Kappa Alpha Order for a charter. On November 3, 1959 an informal petitioned was sent to Mr. Leroy Scott, Commander of White Province, for the consideration and approval of the chapters of White Province. February 4, 1960, four members of ASK attended Alpha Gamma's Lee Banquet at L.S.U. and on April 6, 1960 the members were notified they had received a vote of approval from the five Louisiana chapters: Psi (1882) @ Tulane, Alpha Gamma (1885) @ L.S.U.,  Alpha Iota (1891) @ Centenary, Gamma Alpha (1947) @ Louisiana Tech, and Gamma Nu (1956) @ Northeastern State.  The petitioning process continued into the fall of 1960 and culminated on December 2, 1960 when, at Jacob's Restaurant, the members were presented with their charter as Gamma Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order. The next evening seventeen young men and their faculty advisor, Dr. Wayne P. Wallace, were initiated into Kappa Alpha Order. Andre "Bruce" Arceneaux from Church Point, LA served as the 1st No. I of the chapter.

HORACE GUIDRY ('60) is now living in Lafayette, LA.

KEN PERRET ('60) joined C.H. Fenstermaker (Bill Fenstermaker ('69) in March 2006 as a senior engineer. Ken is the former assistant secretary for Office of Planning and Programming for the Louisiana Dept of Transportation.

KEN AROIN ('61) has retired from Pfizer Corporation and and is Vice President for University Advancement for the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. He is responsible for administering Advancement Services, Alumni Affairs, Development, Governmental Affairs, and Public Relations and News Services. Ken has moved from the Dallas area to Lafayette. He also is serving as the Faculty Advisor for Gamma Phi Chapter.

JIMMY MILLER ('61) passed away on October 25, 2008. Jim was a retired Chemical Engineer for Chevron Oil Company living in Gretna, LA

CORKY PERRET ('61), was selected by the Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission to recive their prestigious Charles H. Lyles Award.The award is presently yearly to an individual who has contributed to the betterment of the fisheries of the Gulf of Mexico. Corky will retire from his position of Deputy Director of the Misissippi Department of Marine Resource in June 2009.

N. LARON PHILLIPS ('60), Baton Rouge, has been elected chariman of the board of directors for the Woman's Hospital Foundation. Ron has served on the board since 2000 and recently retired as CFO of The Newtron Group, Inc.

PAUL BAQUET ('62) and his wife, Tootsie, have recently moved to Galveston, TX.

ALEX LABRY ('62) is a member of the faculty at St. Edward's University in Austin, TX teaching art/photography.

RON LEBLANC ('62) is the Customer Service Manager with Tracker Marine Boat Center at the Bass Pro Shop in Bossier City.

HENRY "HANK" BOURGAUX ('63) and his wife, Shirley, are now living in Hilton Head, S.C.

DEWITT "ZEEN" DAVID ('63) is manager of the Commercial Division of Van Eaton & Romero, Realtors in Lafayette.

HENRY FRY ('63) is now with the State Fire Marshall's office in Baton Rouge.

BILLY LINTOTT ('63) is a pharmacist in Grand Junction, Colorado

CHARLES ROBERTS ('63) and his wife Lynn own and operate a Sylvan Learning Center in Columbia, N.C.

DOUG MANSHIP ('64) is Publisher & Chief Operating Officer of Capital City Press (The Advocate) in Baton Rouge.

JEROME ALESI ('65) received the Distinguished Service Award from the Louisiana Dental Association. This award is presently annually to members who exemplify the highest standards of prefessional conduct in denistry and have made extraordinary contributions in organized denistry and their community.

PETE GUIDRY ('65) and his wife, Lisa, moved to Las Vegas in August 2007.

JOE BAGGETT ('66) is the General Manager for PC Boards, Inc. in Chanute, Kansas, an electronic equiment & supplies firm.

DAVID ARDOIN ('67) retired from Pfizer Pharmacuticals. He and Jill and their kids, Kathryn and Matthew, live in Clearwater, Florida

WARREN PERRIN ('67) was honored during Acadian Celebration Day at Vermilionville in Lafayette with their annual Cultural Preservation Award. Warren's book "Acadian Redemption" was awarded the "Best History Book" published in Louisiana last year and been submitted to the southeast regional competition.

LOUIS HANEMANN ('67), died on May 21, 2007 at his home in Raleight, N.C. Louis was principal at Teurlings High School in Lafayette, LA, V.P. of Human Services for North Carolina Natural Gas Corp, and served as a volunteer for the Peace Corps in Odessa, Ukraine. Louis was an ordained Deacon for the Catholic Church.

HUGH HARLTON ('67) and his wife, Lee Anne, have relocated to Metairie and Hugh is working with UPS.


MIKE HUGGINS ('67), a colonel in the Green Berets, received the Legion of Merit from the Commander of the U.S. Army Special Operation Command at Fort Bragg, N.C.  This is the nations second highest peacetime award from the Active Army. Mike serves as the Chief of Medical Operations for the Headquarters.

JAY SHELDEN ('67) is a retired Northwest Airlines Captain and is now Sales Manager for Horizon Realty's Debi Hering Team in Osprey, FL.

JOE STEIN ('67) and his wife, Ginger, have moved to Warner Robins, GA where Joe is the Director for Fleet Depot Maintenance for Northrop Grumman.

CHRIS ROTH ('67) and his wife, Connie, are still in Bay St. Louis, MS where Chris manages the insurance agency operations for Hancock Bank

KELSEY WILLIAMS ('67) recently retired and is living in Chantilly, VA.

CHUCK THOMAS ('68) married Patti Biancosino Cox on Christmas eve 2003. Scuzzy and Patti are living in Fort Worth where he is a sales represetative for M.I. Drilling Fluids.

STAN BROUSSARD ('68) is a financial analyst at Smith-Barney in Lafayette.

DREW DODENHOFF ('69) is a Broker-Associate with Latter & Blum's Uptown office in New Orleans.

BILL HYDE ('68) was appointed by U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Don Evans, to serve on the newly-created U.S. Travel & Tourism Promotion Advisory Board seeking to develop marketing programs to encourage international travel to the U.S. He retired as CEO of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in November 2003.

GREG CLARK ('69) recently moved to Baton Rouge as a site manager for Newpark Environmental.

JOE GOODSON ('68) is Insurance Agency Manager with Citizens Bank & Trust Co in Batou Rouge.

GLENN DaGIAN ('69) is director of Government Affairs for BP America in Texas. On behalf of BP, Glenn donated a $10,000 Solar Utility Vehicle to the Unviversity of Louisiana.

RICK MATTE ('69) was recently recognized as "Associate of the Year" for Universal Premium Finance Corporation. Rick will be retiring soon and plans on relocating to Lafayette.

KERMIT BOULLION ('70) was selected to serve as the new Director of Acadian Village in Lafayette.

MAX LARSEINGUE ('70) lives in Collyville, TX just west of the DFW airport. Max is the Division President over the Dallas area for Choice Homes, a large regional homebuilder.

EDWARD "BROTHER" ABDALLA ('71) ruled over Lafayette's 2004 Mardi Gras as King Gabriel LXV. Brother owns and operates "Brothers On The Boulevard", a men and women's cloothing store.

DICKIE DUPUIS ('71) is a commercial mortgage banker with Bendel Mortgage Company in Lafayette, LA.

JIM FAULK ('71) served as King Lacassine XXXIX of the Krewe of Attakapas on January 27, 2007. Jim's father, Arthur E. Faulk, Jr., served as King Lacassine X.

MIKE BEDUZE ('72) has moved to Houston and opened a life planning firm providing family office services and portfolio management. He'll continue to service his large client base in south Louisiana.

BILL BUTTS ('72) is an Internal Auditor at LHC Group in Lafayette, LA.

TEDDY PAUL ('72 lives in Centerville, LA and is working for Chevron-Texaco Overseas Petroleum as an Operations Coordinator.

DAVID BLANCHET ('73) a family court judge in the 15th Judicial District serving the Lafayette area. David chaired the committee that wrote the rules for family court.

BROOX GARRETT ('72) is living in Scotsdale, AZ.

STEPHEN BILLEAUD ('72) died May 18, 2008 in Lafayette. His survivors include his wife, Sarah, and three daughters. Stephen was President of BEO Contractors, a general contracting firm that constructed several buildings on the University of Louisiana campus.

GERALD "TEE" ABSHIRE ('73) is with iBERIA BANK in Lafayette.

CHARLES BOUSTANY ('74) was elected to the U.S. House of Representative for the 7th Congressional District.

BRAD KEMP ('74), photographer with The Daily Advertiser, was recently honored with an award for his work at the annual Louisiana & Mississippi Associated Press Managing Editors meeting.

KEITH PATIN ('75) was elected to serve as a councilman for the Lafayette Consolidated Government.

DR. MICHAEL SONNIER, DDS ('75) died December 12, 2005 in Lafayette.

PAT MILAM ('76) is the Vice President for Business Development for Grasso, a Bristow Company in Houston.

EMMETT BOUDREAUX ('77) is an attorney in Baton Rouge with the firm of Boudreaux & Whtiworth. Emmett and his wife, Barbara, have two childred, Ellliot (10) and Anne (6). 

ERIC CHIASSON ('77) is Vice President of the Bank of Sunset in Lafayette.

DON DOMINGUES ('77) is the Branch Manager for Raymond James Financial Services located at 315 S. College Rd in Lafayette.

CHARLES A. PREJEAN, MD ('77) died May 15, 2009 in Lafayette after a courageous battle with cancer. Dr. Prejean was an emergency room physician at Baton Rouge General.

COLBY COLOMB ('78) is EUS Operations Mgr. Drilex/Coring with Baker Hughes.

TODD MANN ('78) has returned to Baton Rouge to JTS Interests as Project Manager for Perkins Rowe Village, a 58-acre, mixed-use development at Perkins Rd & Bluebonnet Blvd.

STEVE SMITH ('78) has recently moved to Farmington, NM and is working for Burlington Resources.

FLOYD YOUNT ('78) is a Sales Consultant with Courtsey GMC in Lafayette.

STEVE BILLEAUD ('78) is Vice President, Eastern Hemisphere Completions Operations for Smith International and is living in Dubai, U.A.E.

MARSHALL MONTGOMERY ('79) is an attorney in Lafayette.

JAY ROUSSEAU ('79) is a financial consultant with Smith-Barney in Baton Rouge.

RYAN SALOOM ('82) is an Account Executive with The Advertiser in Lafayette.

SCOTT VIATOR ('82) and his wife, Dionne, live in Baton Rouge with their two children Tyler (9) and Lauren (6). Scott works in Lafayette as Sales Manager with International Paper and Dionne is the CFO with Baton Rouge General Hospital System.

TIM BREAUX ('83) is CEO of Ironhorse Development Co. specializing in new construction of hotels and surgery centers.

PAUL GRANGER ('83) is the Global Operations Director for Pathfinder Energy Services in Lafayette. Paul completed his MBA @ UL in 2000 and worked in Brazil from 2003-2006. He is married with two boys and two girls.

MARK McRAE ('83) of Leesville was recently appointed as a civilain aid to the Secretary of the Army. Mark is president of 2 MACS, LLC & is a managing partner with MRM Partnerhsip. He was the former owner of McRaie Autoplaza. Mark also served as special assistant to Congressman Jim McCrery.

MIKE MAYHAN ('84) and his wife, Jackie, are living in Lake Forest, CA. Mike owns a surf whsolesale business and is going back to school to pursue a masters in Marine Biology with an emphasis on sharks and coral reefs.

KIRK AINSWORTH ('85) is a Medical Device Sales Rep with Boston Scientific in New Orleans. He and his wife, Lyndi, have two children, Mia and Jack.

BYRON DEVILLIER ('85) lives in Baton Rouge and works as a Customer Relations Specialist for Entergy.

DAVID DOMINGUE ('85) and his wife, Kelley, are the proud parents of Thomas Preston Domingue, born February 16, 2009. Thomas joins brothers Carson & Brennan.

JEFF DUPLANTIS ('85) and his wife, Toni, and son, Justin (22), live in Baton Rouge. Jeff is the Principal Project Manager for MWH Americas in Baton Rouge. Toni is an Congregational Nurse for Our Lady of the Lake and Justin is attending LSU.

CARY POOLER ('87) is in Louisville, KY working as a Senior Project Geologist for URS Corporation.

MARK RICHARDSON ('87) is the Corporate Safety Manager with the Newtron Group in Baton Rouge.

CLINT ELLIOT ('88) is in his anesthesia residency at Ochsner in New Orleans. He and Melissa are the proud parents of their 2nd son, Zachar Lee born January 2, 2004.

PHIL NEELEY ('88) is living in Slidell and is the CEO of Southern Surgical Hospital.

JEAN-PIERRE ST. ROMAIN ('88) married Jennifer Marie Putnam in Abbeville on November 25, 2005. They reside in Fort Collins, Colorado. 

TROY HEBERT ('90) was honored in March 2006 at the Viva La Cure! Fundraiser with The Spirit Award. Troy is a volunteer counselor for cancer patients and a committed fundraiser for St. Jude's Hospital. Troy is the General Manager at ERA Stirling Properties in it's Lafayette office.

AL BOW ('91) is an Asset Manager with SpectraSite in Missouri City, TX. SpectraSite markets space on communications towers to wireless carriers and space on rooftops for owners of office buildings, malls and hotels.  Al is repsonsible for maintaining these communications links we've all taken for granted. Al and Helen have two sons, Greyson, 5 and Miles, 4.  Helen is a Media Relations Consultant for Shell Oil Company.

CHRIS CALAGNA ('91) is the Marketing Coordinator for Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital in Houston.

CHRIS ETIENNE ('91) relocated from southwest Florida to Houston and will be heading a title/abstract company for the law firm of Codilis & Stawiarski.
 

SCOTT GARBER ('91) is a Senior Attorney-Intellectual Property for Contenental Airlines in Houston.

HARLAN KAPPEL ('91) started his own firm in Dallas, Tx. Kappel Business Partners provides businesses with comprhensive and strategic planning services, capital solutions and advice to facilitate a company's growth.

DANNON PETERSON ('91) married Kelly Griffin in Dallas, TX on June 7, 2003. They recently relocated to the Gold Coast of Australia where Dannon works for ENSCO.

JUDD BARES ('92) is owner of Sweet Spot Telemedia, an independent television production company in Sulphur, LA.

MIKE ELIAS ('92) is a Sales Account Manager with Intergrated Production Services in Houston, TX.

MARC COMEAUX ('92) is a Senior Underwriter for Chase Bank in Sugarland, TX. His wife, Wendy, is a 2nd grade teach and they have 3 kids; Emily 7, Anna 5, & Matthew 3.

BRADY LEBLANC ('92) is a pilot for Seven Bar (Air Medical Transport). Brady & his wife, Karen, live in Fort Worth, TX.

BRENT MOUTON ('92) is now with Brenton Investment Corp which owns & manages "Hit-N-Run" convenience stores in the Lafayette area.

BRANDON MYERS ('92) and his recent bride, Angella, live in the Dallas suburb of Frisco. He's still in Telecom sales with Alcatel.

DONNIE RICHARD ('92) graduated from LSU Law School in 2000 and moved back to his home town of Eunice, LA and hung up his shingle. Donnie & his wife, Michele, have four children.

KERRY "GAAREE" JOHNSON ('92) is in Houston and works for Gyrodata in sales.

MARTY ROMERO ('92) is in the landscaping & irrigations business with Acadiana Green Landscape in Broussard, LA.

COREY BURNS ('93) is working as an Environmental Scientist with the Shaw Group in Baton Rouge.

BRANDON CLARK ('93) is a Project Engineer for Pneu-Elect, a division of Dynamic Industries. He and his wife, Amy, live in Broussard, LA with their son Caleb.

STEVEN GRAHAM ('93) and his wife, Ally, own Envisions Security in Lafayette. They have two children, Jackson 10 and Farrah 9.

JEFF MADDUX ('93) will be leaving the Air Force and moving back to Houston in Dec.

JASON REED ('93) is a State Farm Agent in Dallas, TX. He and Jenny Breaux were married October 28, 2006 in New Iberia. Jenny is director of Social Services at Baylor Medical Center.

MARSHALL SCOTT ('93) married Amy Cockern in May 2005. Marshall is a Key Account Executive for Labcorp in Baton Rouge.

BURTON "DUV" DUVERNAY, III ('94) died On August 27, 2005. Burton was an aviation student at Louisiana Tech working toward certification as a commercial pilot.

CORY HEBERT ('94) is persuing his Masters in Education at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL.
 

JASON BROUSSARD ('94) received his B.S. in Applied Life Sciences from ULL in Dec. 1998 and is employed with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality in Lafayette as an Environmental Scientist.

BRANDON MEYERS ('94) is in Houston working in management for SBC Southwestern Bell.

GREG GONSOULIN ('95) is the IT Administrator for Chart Energy and Chemicals in New Iberia.

JASON DEAN ('95) is a sales manager for Diskeeper Corporatoin in Los Angeles, CA.

ROSS WOODRING ('95) is a broker with Smith-Barney in Lafayette.

ZED LACOUR ('95) is in Lafayette working with Vector Graphics as an Account Manager selling computer software, primarily AutoCAD. Zed and Brigette Landry were married September 4, 2004.

JEREMY BROUSSARD ('95) and his wife, Catherine, are in Lafayette. Jeremy is a medical device sales representative for Medtronic.

PATRICK BRUPACHER ('96) and Ashley Louise Andrus were married November 3, 2006 in Lafayette. They reside in Houston.

JUSTIN CENTANNI ('96) and Marie DesOrmeaux were married Oct 30, 2004 and are living in Baton Rouge.

GARTH WOTKYNS ('96) is owner of Comitted Fitness, a personal Training Business in Houston, TX. Garth recently made it to the finals in the 201+ lbs division in the South East Texas Regional Golden Gloves.

JASON BLEVINS ('97) passed away on September 4, 2007 in Pascagoula, MS. Jason is survived by his wife, Sonya, a son, Jason Wayne and a daugher, Victoria Faye. Jason was a project manager for ECCO Electrical and Instrumentation, Inc.

MARK BROUSSARD ('97) and his wife, Carolyn, are living in Youngsville. They have two children, Matthew (2) and Emily (1). Mark is the Business Development Manager with Cajun Maritime..

KRIS CHEBUL ('97) is working in Chicago, IL as an Architect/Construction Project Manager.

RAY COTHERN ('97) and Malanie Moseley were married on Nov 27, 2004. Ray is attending LSU Medical School in New Orleans.

JAMES "JIMBO" ROBERT ('97) and Amber Gonsoulin exchanged wedding vows at St. John Cathedral in Lafayette on July 13, 2007. Jimbo is a landman with Allen & Kirmse.

MATT ROMERO ('97) is living in Baton Rouge and works as a Credit Analyst for Toyota Financial Services. Matt and Jennifer Gaar were married in Natchitoches, LA on Nov 17, 2007.

JARED SERE' ('97) is Chief Operating Officer with LTAC of Acadiana, a long-term, acute-care hospital in Lafayette.

DENNY SMITH ('99) is a Marketing Rep for Acadiana Bottling in Lafayette.

BOBBY APRIL ('01) is the inside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator for Portland State Football under head coach, Jerry Glanville. Bobby spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Tulane. He had three summer interships with the Buffalo Bills (2004), Jacksonville Jaguars (2003) and St. Louis Rams (2002).

MATT BOUDREAUX ('01) and Kimberly Louise James were married on December 1, 2006 in Lafayette.
